4 Ways You May Accidentally Void Your Roofing Warranty

As a homeowner, the last thing you want to do is to accidentally void your roofing warranty when you’re doing a project. In this post, Nomad Roofing lists four ways you may be voiding the warranty of your home roofing system.

4 Ways You May Accidentally Void Your Roofing Warranty

1. Improper Ventilation

Ventilation is vital to the health and long-term serviceability of your roof. It allows your roof to “breathe”, preventing it from drying out, especially in winter, and sustaining water damage. Inadequate venting most commonly causes moisture and heat to get trapped in your attic. Since ventilation is a homeowner responsibility, your warranty claim will be rejected if it sustains damage as a result of improper ventilation.

2. Incorrect Installation

A residential roofing contractor abides by strict regulations when it comes to how the roofs are installed. These include small things like the number of nails on the shingles and even the length. That’s why you should work with a certified local contractor. Incorrect roof installation or replacement as a result of DIY work will nullify the warranty that might have come with the roof.

3. Antennas and Satellite Dishes

Installing satellite dishes or antennas can actually affect your roof’s warranty, which is why it pays to read the fine print. This is because drilling holes into the roof may make it more susceptible to leaks, which will void the warranty covering the leak.

4. Pressure Washing

Pressure washing, especially at high settings, can void the warranty of your roof by stripping off the protective roofing granules of the roof. Additionally, not all roofing systems can withstand high pressures. This is why we don’t recommend power washing. If mold and moss is a problem, we recommend installing metallic zinc strips instead.
