Your roof can be a bit deceptive when it comes to showing that it needs immediate repair, and the warning signs may not be too obvious. This summer, Nomad Roofing recommends you check your roofing for these four warning signs that your roof needs repair or replacing soon.
Check the interior ceiling for water spots. If there are, it’s a sign that your roof has developed leaks that are causing more and more water to enter through your roof. Water spots also occur on your roof’s soffits, which often require new soffit installation as soon as possible to avoid further moisture damage. Make sure you address leaks immediately, as they can rapidly grow in size in just a matter of days.
Check your home’s gutter system and see if there is an unusually high trace of granules. These actually come from your roof’s shingles, and they are what protects your roof from elemental damage. These granules, which have been stripped off, is a prelude to your shingles buckling, curling, and even cracking. If you have high traces of roof granules in your gutter system, then it’s time to replace the shingles.
While blocked gutters are not exactly a sign that your roof needs repair, it can negatively affect the entire roof structure. Blocked gutters pull down on your roof’s fascia boards, and can loosen shingles in the process. Damaged gutters also pose a similar problem, which is why we recommend you have us do eavestrough repair work if your gutter system is experiencing a problem diverting water properly.
Damaged flashings pose a risk since their main role is to protect your roof structure from water intrusion. A flashing that’s damaged also causes leaks to form faster. We recommend you switch to metal flashing as it’s more durable than asphalt and tar, and resists water and moisture damage better.
